Linux and Unix actually aren’t the same thing. Mac OS is Unix after Steve Jobs took a big dump on it, then once you buy an $800 PC for at least $1200, he takes a dump on you.
I understand that you are bitter about the financial raping instilled on you, so feel free to call me a gamer with no life despite knowing nothing about me. I’m sure you need the win there.
And the reason for the reliability of Macs is not a good thing. Nobody bothers to give Macs viruses for the same reasons nobody bothers to go to war with Canada. They suck anyway, they aren’t significant, and even if you did both people who care would be tools.
Any virus takes resources to develop, so why would you not go for the target with a bigger reward. Suppose Fort Knox and the cookie jar had equal security. Which would you steal from? There is no amazing security behind Macs, PCs are just bigger targets because they matter.
Other problems with PCs are generally due to the user being an idiot, and due to the large market share we also have a large idiot share. PCs leave virtually every setting open to the user to modify. Often times, the user doesn’t know his shit and screws things up. Macs give you no power and thus its hard to mess things up. Think about how much damage you could cause locked in a playpen vs. locked in The Pentagon.
My XP computer of five years got exactly 0 viruses without even installing an antivirus because I wasn’t an idiot who clicked every popup and downloaded 2kB movies off of LimeWire. The biggest problems PCs have are the users, the uninformed of which seem to be switching to Macs. Have fun, all the engineers and scientists which make any real progress in the world will still be here using PCs.
